Professor Rene Breton is now unable to lecture at the end of this month. Fortunately Dr Ian Taylor, who was to have lectured next February, is able to step into the breach and will be speaking on 'The Three Body Problem' on 29th May 2024. His talk will be concerned with the impossibility of accurately predicting (in the long term) the gravitational motion of three bodies and will discuss forces, Newton's law of gravity, the history of the three body problem (as a major research topic after Newton was working out the motion of the earth, moon, and sun) and more recent work on how this affects black holes. A brief biography of Ian can be seen in the members' area of the website.
