August 2025

There is no meeting this month but there are a number of astronomical events of note.

The Perseid meteor shower reaches its maximum on the 12th August. Don't expect to see as many meteors as the NASA photo shows, but try to spot a few!!

Venus reaches its highest point in the morning sky on the 19th August which is also the date of the greatest elongation of Mercury.

As Richard mentioned in his round up of astronomical events back in January, a good time to find Mercury is on 21st August when it is immediately below a thin crescent Moon.
